Course - Physical biology of the cell
When? Sept 25-29, 2023
Where? Hexalab - Luminy Campus (Marseille, France)
Deadline : September 10th, 2023
Description
It is a wonderful time to be thinking about the workings of the living world. Historic advances in molecular biology, structural biology and the use of biophysical techniques such as optical traps have provided an
unprecedented window on the mechanics of the cell.
Organized by Rob Philips
Professor of Biophysics, Biology and Physics at Caltech (California Institute of technology) and Head of the Physical Biology of the cell group, will lead this course on «Physical biology of the cell».
The goal of this course is to take a broad and quantitative view of modern biology with topics including the active matter herding of animals, the control of cellular organelle size, and the consumption of free energy to fuel processes like high fidelity polymerization in DNA replication and sugar transport up a concentration
gradient.
Ana Duarte, graduate student in the lab of Rob Phillips at Caltech, will accompany
him and give the afternoon classes.
